Imagine an Upland where all the youth from
early childhood to young adults had all the necessary tools to keep
them from drug addiction, participation in gangs, poor school
attendance and low academic performance.
This was a dream of a small group
of Upland residents when, in 1995, they founded the Upland
Community Partnership for Youth Development. Here was an opportunity
to work with potentially at-risk students in their formative years
to give them the tools to fight many of the negative influences they
would face. We invite you to learn about their past involvements
and join us in our adventures into a better future.
Upland Community Partnership
provides after-school programs located
in the residential neighborhoods of our participants.
Elementary-age students can get homework help, access the internet
and learn skills to help
them be successful in school. In collaboration with the Upland
Police Department, the Upland School District, the Upland Interfaith
Council, the Upland YMCA, and Healthy Start, Recreation Department
staffers provide a safe environment and challenging
activities four days a week.
Young
people today are more prone toward violence and crime. The
after-school hours are when kids are most likely to get into
trouble. Community based programs like ours are keys to kids’
success and make significant contributions to working families.
Our elementary age participants
receive assistance with homework, tutoring and participate in
activities which support their school curriculum while developing
positive and lasting relationships.
